Accessing family law in regional areas

There are often regional areas in Victoria and throughout Australia where there may be no lawyers at all or at least no specialist family lawyers. This does not have to be a bar to accessing family law legal services.

Family law in Australia is governed by the Family Law Act 1975, which means that the law is the same in each state (except for Western Australia).

The Family Law Courts comprise of the Family Court of Australia and the Federal Circuit Court of Australia. The Federal Circuit Courts conduct regular circuits to regional areas throughout Australia and in Victoria this includes:

  • Ballarat
  • Bendigo
  • Castlemaine
  • Geelong
  • Gippsland (Morwell)
  • Mildura
  • Shepparton
  • Warnabool

Nicholes Family Lawyers can prepare and file matters for hearings in these circuits. Applications can be lodged in the Melbourne registry with a request to allocate the matter to a particular circuit and we are experienced in undertaking this type of work.

Today’s modern technology including emails, Skype and telephone communication means that our lawyers can assist our clientele without having to see them face-to-face.

Nicholes Family Lawyers regularly act for clients from regional areas throughout Victoria and interstate and we have the requisite skill and expertise in these cases. Nicholes Family Lawyers can act directly for you or act as an agent for another solicitor in a regional area.

If you have a family law enquiry in relation to accessing family law in regional areas or agency work then please contact our firm to discuss how we can assist you with your family law issue.
