Nicholes Family Lawyers Managing Partner Sally Nicholes and Senior Partner Keturah Sageman have co-authored the article “Can we do more to protect children? Intercountry adoption, relocation and abduction” for the January/February 2023 edition of the Australian Lawyers Alliance’s (ALA) legal journal Precedent.

In the article, Sally and Keturah canvass the Australian and international legal frameworks that aim to protect children from trafficking and other harm that may come as a result of intercountry adoption. They also address welfare issues for children who are the subject of international relocation and abduction, including examining the experience of LGBTQIA+ communities within this framework. The article also covers areas for potential reform in Australian and international jurisprudence and policy.

The ALA is an important national association of lawyers, academics and other professionals dedicated to protecting and promoting justice, freedom and the rights of the individual. They promote access to justice and equality before the law for all individuals regardless of their wealth, position, gender, sexuality, age, race or religious belief.
