Nicholes Family Lawyers was a proud sponsor of the Better Together Conference 2018. The two-day national conference was held at the Melbourne Town Hall from 12 January to 13 January 2018. The conference aimed to create a “truly intersectional discussion about achieving meaningful social change to create a fairer, more equal and more just Australia”.
The conference explored issues that face the LGBTIQ community and included voices from indigenous, disability, multicultural and deaf community groups. The two days included sessions such as “Intersex Justice and Equality”, “Bisexual Visibility” and “LGBTI Inclusion in the Workplace”.
Senior Associate, Bec Dahl, as well as being a member of the organising steering committee took part in a panel discussion on “Queer Families and the Law” alongside forensic psychologist Robert Simon, lawyer Stephen Page and Louise Johnston from VARTA. The discussion focused on the legal issues facing rainbow families. The panel discussed where to begin if you want to start a family, psychological aspects behind creating and raising a family and touched on sperm donation and surrogacy.
The Better Together Conference 2018 was a huge success and Nicholes Family Lawyers was proud to be involved in continuing the conversation for a more inclusive Australia for the LGBTIQ community.
